Generally, there is a relation between the shape (or sometimes type) of the object measured, and an applicable measure word; Or the quantity and amount , or an action and movement etc.
The Chinese Mandarin numeral comes + the measure word + noun.
In Mandarin Chinese, the use of a measure word between a number and a noun is obligatory to indicate the unit of measurement of an object, as in “ling gè rén” and “yì zhāng piào.” Such linguistic difference explains why Chinese Mandarin learners often find it difficult to master Chinese measure words.
The best way to acquire chinese measure words is through associating measure words with the names of objects, that is, through meaningful learning in contexts.
